Why Choose This Course?

Why do we think, feel and act the way we do? How do our experiences, relationships and environments influence our behaviour? Psychology General Year 12 explores the science of human behaviour and mental processes, helping students develop a deeper understanding of themselves and the people around them. 

Through the study of personality, memory, social influence and human development, students investigate how psychological knowledge can be applied to everyday life. This engaging and practical course is ideal for students interested in communication, relationships, mental health, community wellbeing and understanding what motivates human behaviour. 

Unit 3: Psychology and Social Influence
Explore how personality, memory and perception influence the way people think and behave. Students investigate factors that affect motivation and performance, examine how individuals interpret and respond to the world around them, and explore the role of culture and communication in shaping social interactions. The unit also introduces ethical psychological research and the methods psychologists use to investigate human behaviour. 
Unit 4: Psychology and Human Performance
Investigate how biological, cognitive and social factors influence behaviour across the lifespan. Students explore brain function, human development, moral reasoning and the impact of social and cultural influences on behaviour. The effects of group dynamics, conformity, leadership, prejudice and social pressures are examined to better understand behaviour in real-world settings. 

Skills Developed
Develop skills in communication, critical thinking and scientific inquiry through the analysis of case studies, research investigations and real-world scenarios. Students learn to interpret behavioural evidence, evaluate psychological research, apply psychological concepts to everyday situations and develop a greater understanding of individual and group behaviour.

Youth Worker, Community Services Worker, Disability Support Worker, Aged Care Worker, Counsellor, Human Resources Assistant, Behaviour Support Worker, Education Assistant, Mental Health Support Worker. 

Study Options
TAFE qualifications in Community Services, Mental Health, Youth Work, Education Support, Allied Health and Human Services, as well as pathway programs leading to further study in Psychology, Social Work, Counselling and related fields.
