Year 10 Courses

Welcome to the Year 10 Course Overview

Year 10 marks the beginning of Senior School and the second half of students’ secondary education. From this point, students start exploring possible future pathways and prepare for the Subject Selection process in Year 11, which opens a range of options.

The goal for every Year 10 student is to achieve their best across all subjects. Strong results keep the widest possible range of choices available in the final years of schooling.

What Year 10 Looks Like

Year 10 is more demanding than Year 9. Students are expected to apply themselves consistently in class and in home study. They continue to study the core subjects — Religion, English, Mathematics, Humanities, Science, and Health and Physical Education — and select two electives.

Important Notes

  • Students are not required to select Sport Academy programs as electives. These are allocated after selection trials are completed.
  • Parents/guardians are encouraged to review the elective options carefully with their child. The time commitment is significant, and changes are not possible once Year 10 begins, as classes and timetables are built around the choices made now.
  • For detailed information about any elective, please contact the relevant Director or Head of Learning Area.

Making Your Selections Online

You will receive an email to your College email account with instructions and a link to the online subject selection system.

Elective Selection Process

In Year 10, electives form a more prominent part of the timetable. Students must choose two electives and two reserves.

Reserves are used if:

  • a preferred elective does not run due to insufficient numbers, or
  • a timetable clash occurs.

Important: Choose reserve subjects that you would genuinely be happy to study.

We hope you enjoy exploring the exciting opportunities available in Year 10 at Emmanuel Catholic College and wish you every success with your subject selections.
