Year 8 Courses

Welcome to the Year 8 Subject Selection process.

Choosing your electives is an exciting opportunity to explore your interests, develop new skills and discover subjects you may wish to continue in the future. This guide will help you complete your selections correctly.

Your Elective Units

In Year 8, students study six elective units across the year:

Three electives in Semester OneThree electives in Semester Two

To meet the requirements of the School Curriculum and Standards Authority (SCSA), your selections must include:

  • One Performing Arts elective
  • One Visual Arts elective
  • One Digital Technologies elective
  • One Design and Technologies elective

Please note: The Digital Technologies requirement is already pre-selected for all students.

Year-Long Electives

Some electives run for the entire year rather than one semester. These count as two elective choices. They include:

Bush Rangers   ·  Basketball Academy  ·  Netball Academy  ·  Football Academy

Students do not need to select a Sport Academy during subject selection. Academy students will be allocated to these courses after selection trials have been completed.

Reserve Electives

You must also choose three reserve electives. These are used if:

  • one of your preferred electives does not run due to low enrolment, or
  • there is a timetable clash between your chosen subjects.

Important: Choose reserve subjects that you would genuinely be happy to study.

Making Your Selections Online

You will receive an email to your College email account with instructions and a link to the online subject selection system.

As you make your selections:

  • Your choices are saved automatically — there is no Save or Submit button.
  • You can return and make changes until the closing date.
  • Once finished, download your Subject Selection Report from the home screen and email a copy to yourself for future reference.
We hope you enjoy exploring the exciting opportunities available in Year 8 at Emmanuel Catholic College and wish you every success with your subject selections!
