The Music General course provides opportunities for students to express themselves, gain an appreciation for various music styles and learn more about music practices across different times, places, cultures, and contexts.
In this highly practical course, students listen to, compose, perform, and analyse music, developing skills to confidently engage with musical experiences both independently and collaboratively.
The course consists of a practical and written component which is broken down in more detail below. The written component of this course also relies on practical skills such as music composition and aural analysis (listening to and talking about music):
Contemporary music is defined as popular music genres/styles from the 1950’s to the present day.
Students who choose to complete their practical component by means of a composition portfolio can use their portfolio for tertiary education and industry application purposes.

Pre-requisites
Competent on a musical instrument/voice AND/OR competent with music production/composition. It is highly recommended that students in Music General are enrolled in the instrumental music program. More information and the enrolment form can be found here.
