What happens inside your body when you are sick, stressed or exercising? How do lifestyle choices influence your health and wellbeing? Human Biology General Year 12 explores how the body’s systems function and respond to everyday challenges, helping students understand the biological factors that affect health throughout life.
Through the study of human development, disease and health management, students develop practical knowledge that can be applied to personal wellbeing and community health. This course is ideal for students interested in healthcare, fitness, community services and health-related career pathways.
Course Structure
Investigate the structure and function of the human reproductive system and the processes involved in human growth and development. Students explore hormonal regulation, reproductive health, pregnancy and the stages of development from conception through to adulthood. The impact of environmental and lifestyle factors on reproductive health and development is also examined.
Examine the causes, transmission and prevention of infectious diseases. Students investigate the role of bacteria, viruses, fungi and parasites in human health, and explore how the immune system protects the body from infection. The use of vaccines, public health strategies and emerging technologies in disease prevention and management are also considered.
Skills and Capabilities Developed
Develop skills in scientific investigation, data analysis and evidence-based decision-making. Students learn to interpret health information, evaluate medical technologies and health interventions, investigate biological issues affecting individuals and communities, and communicate scientific understanding using appropriate terminology.

Aged Care Worker, Disability Support Worker, Allied Health Assistant, Nursing Assistant, Community Services Worker, Health and Fitness Coach, Childcare Educator, Health Administration Officer.
Post-School Study Options
Certificate III and IV qualifications in Health Services, Community Services, Aged Care, Disability Support and Fitness, as well as Diploma pathways in Nursing, Allied Health and related health professions through TAFE and other training providers.
