Year 9

Basketball Academy

The Year 9 Basketball Academy is a specialised program designed for students who demonstrate a strong interest and commitment to basketball. Students are invited to apply for inclusion in the program and are required to complete trials during Term 3.

The academy includes multiple lessons each week and combines practical and theoretical learning experiences to support the development of students as athletes, leaders, and lifelong participants in sport.

Practical Components

  • Strength and conditioning
  • Basketball skill development
  • Coaching and umpiring
  • Match play and game-based learning

Theoretical Components

  • Game structures and tactical awareness
  • Nutrition and athlete wellbeing
  • Responsible use of social media
  • Research investigations related to sport and performance

A compulsory co-curricular component forms part of the academy, with students expected to attend a one-hour training session each week, either before or after school. Throughout the year, students will have opportunities to participate in competitive fixtures and tournaments against other schools and colleges, allowing them to apply and refine their skills in authentic sporting environments.

The program also includes excursions, guest presenters, goal-setting workshops, and leadership development activities. These experiences are designed to enhance students’ understanding of basketball while fostering resilience, teamwork, communication, and leadership skills.

The Basketball Academy provides students with a pathway to further develop their knowledge, skills, and passion for the sport while promoting excellence both on and off the court.
