Dance (Certificate II)

The Certificate II Dance (CUA20120) is a nationally recognised training program. The course develops industry-specific workplace skills in Dance that may lead to basic level industry opportunities or further education in the dance industry. Students who successfully complete the required coursework and assessment tasks upon satisfactory completion may attain a Certificate II in Dance and national qualification. 

Within the dance program at Emmanuel Catholic College, it gives students the opportunity to prepare for a career in dance; offering training in dance-industry specific skills, developing industry – relevant knowledge, and offering a taste of real industry activities. Where all course requirements are met, a Certificate may be awarded.

This course is available to all students in Year 11 who have an interest in developing and building skills for the field of dance. This course includes but is not limited to the following;

  • Choreography
  • Workshops
  • Dance classes in Studio Spaces
  • Performance opportunities in various performance venues.
  • Fitness and work-related employability skills

 Course Information: 

  • Duration 2 years.
  • Delivery Mode Face to Face onsite at Emmanuel Catholic College.
  • This training package will attract a minimal administration fee of approximately $380 per student. The course is highly sort after for further education purposes, with recognition of learning that has taken place during secondary schooling and where units are completed a Statement of Attainment may be awarded.

Program Employability Skills: 

  • Occupational Health & Safety, including Senior First Aid.  
  • Collaboration and Teams building within Creative Performance projects. 
  • Coaching and Mentoring strategies. 
  • Developing leadership roles within project development.  
  • Understanding relational problem-solving skills in collaboration with others.

Further education can be supported in the progression to Diploma level of Fitness and Training and Events Management, or University Entrance at Bachelor level for Dance, Musical Theater, Sound and Lighting Design.   

Dance physical training is built on

  • Understanding the physiology of the body, injury prevention, dietary requirements, optimum health and wellbeing.
  • Building dance skills and techniques to an industry level. 
  • Understanding how to use your body safely.
  • Working with others and collaborating.
  • Following directions.
  • Audition techniques.
  • Performance opportunities in real world industry spaces and environments to live audiences.

Knowledge is gleaned on legal policies within business operations such as: 

  • Copyright laws and the legal rights under common law. 
  • Employment contracts and funding applications.   
  • Knowledge of the legal process of Human Rights and Equal Opportunities Act, when working with others
