Year 11

Chemistry (ATAR & General)

Studying a Chemistry course will enable students to understand the composition, structure, properties, and changes of matter, which is fundamental to various scientific and industrial fields. Students are exposed to a variety of chemical sources, including experimental data, scientific papers, chemical models, reactions, and secondary sources, in order to analyse chemical phenomena and solve complex problems.

Students who choose Chemistry will complete depth-studies and investigate topics such as:

  • Atomic Structure and Bonding
  • Chemical Reactions and Stoichiometry
  • Organic Chemistry
  • Chemical Equilibrium and Thermodynamics

Pathways Beyond School

Studying chemistry will develop students’ critical reasoning and analytical skills, including the capacity for solving intricate problems and thinking logically. Chemistry graduates are therefore valued by a wide range of employers and organisations. Just some of the career pathways associated with studying Chemistry are:

  • Chemist
  • Pharmacist
  • Chemical Engineer
  • Environmental Scientist
  • Materials Scientist
  • Laboratory Technician
  • Research Scientist
  • Teacher

Pre-requisites

  • ATAR: State B-Grade minimum in Science and Mathematics in Year 10
  • General: Nil
