Year 10

Sport and Recreation

This course provides the students further development of their sport and outdoor recreation skills. This course also provides students with the practical skills and knowledge to maintain a safe environment in different scenarios.  

Students will develop a greater understanding of the sport industry, be able to provide first aid, explore and demonstrate the skills associated with coaching and best practice to prevent sports injuries. Completing Sport and Recreation in Year 10 leads to a student being able to complete a Certificate III in Sport and Recreation in Year 11 and 12.  

As part of this course, students are required to attend a three-day camp to the Southwest of WA. They have the opportunity to hike Bluff Knoll and Castle Rock, while providing and cooking their own food in a camp setting. 

Some of the topics that are covered are: 

  • Introduction to snorkeling
  • Camp craft 
  • Introduction to First Aid 
  • SEPEP sporting Competition

Pre-requisites
Consultation is required with the Head of Health and Physical Education Learning Area if: 

  • The student is not a competent swimmer
  • A record of poor and/or unsafe behaviour
