Year 10

Mastermind

Why Choose This Course?

Are you fascinated by what makes people tick? Curious about why we dream, how we learn, or how personalities develop? Mastermind takes you on an exciting deep dive into human behaviour — helping you understand others and yourself.

This course is your gateway to the mind. From exploring brain structure and memory to analysing personalities and communication styles, you’ll build insight into what drives human thoughts, feelings, and actions.

What You’ll Learn

Over the year, you’ll investigate major fields of psychology and discover how understanding human behaviour can shape positive change — in school, in friendships, and in life. Topics include:

  • The biology of the brain: how neurons fire and regions of the brain function
  • Theories of intelligence: is IQ everything? What about EQ?
  • Personality testing: are you more introvert or extrovert — and what does that mean?
  • Consciousness and sleep: why do we dream?
  • Communication: what makes someone a great listener or speaker?
  • Research methods in psychology: how scientists investigate the mind

This course aligns with the WA Year 10 Science curriculum, particularly in Science Inquiry Skills (planning and conducting investigations, collecting and interpreting data), Science as a Human Endeavour (ethical understanding, social applications), and Science Understanding (biology, health science, cognitive psychology).

Real World Relevance

Psychology is everywhere — in marketing, sport, education, medicine, leadership, and social media. This course gives you essential skills for future pathways in psychology, nursing, teaching, business, and mental health.
