CUA20620 Certificate II in Music

The Certificate II in Music (CUA20620) is a nationally recognised training program. The course develops industry-specific workplace skills in Music that may lead to entry-level industry opportunities or further education within the music and performing arts industries. Students who successfully complete the required coursework and assessment tasks may attain a Certificate II in Music and a national qualification. 

Within the music program at Emmanuel Catholic College, students are provided with opportunities to prepare for future pathways in music and the creative arts industry. The course offers training in music-industry specific skills, develops industry-relevant knowledge, and provides practical experiences through authentic performance and production activities. Where all course requirements are met, a Certificate may be awarded. 

This course is available to all Year 11 students who have an interest in developing and building skills within the field of music. This course includes, but is not limited to, the following: 

  • Instrumental and vocal performance  
  • Music workshops and rehearsals  
  • Ensemble and solo performance opportunities  
  • Songwriting and composition  
  • Music technology and sound production  
  • Performance opportunities in various venues and school events   

 The course is highly sought after for further education pathways, recognising the learning achieved during secondary schooling. Students who successfully complete individual units of competency may also be awarded a Statement of Attainment. 

This course is delivered onsite at Emmanuel Catholic College; however, some performances and workshops may take place at external venues. 

Further education pathways may include progression to Diploma-level studies in Music, Sound Production, Live Production and Events, or University Entrance pathways into Bachelor degrees in Music, Contemporary Performance, Audio Engineering, Music Education or Performing Arts.

Knowledge is gained on legal policies within business operations such as:
  • Copyright laws and legal rights under common law  
  • Music licensing and intellectual property  
  • Employment contracts and funding applications  
  • Understanding workplace expectations within the Creative Arts Industry  
  • Knowledge of the Human Rights and Equal Opportunities Act when working collaboratively with others 

Pre-requisites

Basic Instrumental or Vocal skills. Individual Music tuition at ECC is highly recommended
